Approved by Amtrak for speeds up to 105 mph, the sheltered observation platform feels comfortable at speeds up to 60 or 70  miles an hour. The platform was not used in the streamlined light weight cars built after WWII.   The horizontal brake wheel, whistle and emergency brake valve  went by the way of the caboose; replaced by technology.
